Scrimmage and Dinner April 4 and Open Practice April 5

On the afternoon of Friday, April 4, the team will hold a scrimmage against Holton Arms on the Potomac at Thompson Boat Center. Rowers will depart from the high school at 3:30, and racing will start at about 4:30, with boats heading from the 14th Street Bridge back towards Memorial Bridge. Depending on light and conditions on the river, a second race may be held subsequently. The best place to view the race is from the banks of the river near the Ericsson Memorial at Ohio Drive and Independence Avenue, SW (located east of Memorial Bridge and south of the Lincoln Memorial). The bus will return to GDS by 6:30 PM. Please note that because of the scrimmage, there will be no practice on Friday morning.

The team dinner will take place on Friday after the race, starting at 7:00 PM at the home of Brittany Brookner’s family. Come enjoy pizza, pasta, and other goodies. All rowers are invited, both varsity and novice. Parents are welcome to stay for a glass of wine and a bite to eat. Details will follow in a separate email.

On the morning of Saturday, April 5, the team will hold an open practice from 7-9 at Thompson Boat Center. Parents are encouraged to come watch the team launch fromĀ  Thompson, and then to watch the team row. Please note that there will be no bus transportation to practice on Saturday. Rowers should arrange their own transportation to the river and arrive no later than 7:00 AM.

No parent volunteers are required for the scrimmage or practice. Thus, all volunteer assignments for Saturday, April 5 are cancelled. If you were scheduled to volunteer on that day, please consider volunteering for another assignment later in the season. Refer to the Volunteers page for open assignments.

See you at the river!
