Baltimore Invitational, April 12

This week’s regatta is the Baltimore Invitational, at Middle Branch Park in Baltimore. This is a major regatta, with over 750 rowers representing clubs from Virginia to Long Island.

All athletes, varsity and novice, should be at the high school no later than 5:45 am Saturday to catch the bus to Baltimore. The coaches and coxswains meeting is very early and we cannot afford to miss it, so please be sure to arrive at the high school in plenty of time. We are trailer mates with the Sidwell team this week. Their trailer should be
loaded and ready to depart Baltimore by 2:45/3:00 PM. The GDS bus will return to
Thompson Boat Center by 4:00/4:15 PM and return to the HS by about 5:30 PM. If
you prefer, you may pick up your rower at Thompson once the boats have been
unloaded and de-rigged, tentatively around 5:00 PM. For more specific
information during the course of the afternoon, please be in touch with your
rower.

Each rower should bring a refillable bottle with him or her for water. Unlike in previous years, our water supply will be in large jugs rather than individual servings to minimize environmental impact.

Race times are listed below. Please note that race times are always subject to change during the course of a regatta.

10:04 AM        Women’s Varsity 4

12:26 PM        Men’s Junior 4

1:54 PM        Women’s Varsity 8

2:10 PM        Men’s Varsity 8

Driving directions to the regatta are available on the Directions page of Hoppercrew.com. Parking for spectators can be found at the public boat launching area on the east side of Hanover Street (through the lights at the intersection of Waterview Avenue and Potee/Hanover Street/Route 2), near Harbor Hospital. A parking czar will direct you in that area. (Note: There is no car parking allowed on the grass of Cherry Hill Park or on Waterview Avenue. The police station is between Baltimore Rowing Club and the public boat ramp so you will be ticketed or towed if you do park there. Obey speed limits when crossing the Hanover Street Bridge.)

If you have a volunteer assignment for this weekend you should already have received an email from Volunteer Spot reminding you of your commitment. Remember that if at any time you wish to review your assignments, you may do so on the Volunteers page of Hoppercrew.com.

Finally, please note that photos from last weekend’s open practice and from practice Wednesday morning are posted on the Pictures page of Hoppercrew.com. Special thanks to Nilotpol Mitra for making these available. If any other parents or rowers have photos they would like to see posted, please put them on a memory stick and have your rower give them to Matthew. Thank you, and Go Hoppers!
