From the Coaches – Spring Break Recap

From Alan after the first week of spring break practices:

The seven spring break practices were  a big success for those who came and we had good turnout.  We had over half the team each day, with a high of two eights and a four, and a low of one eight and a four.  The team worked hard, and I saw significant improvement from several of them.  This should put us in much better shape than if we had not had these practices.

We did have a few launch issues, but these looked like typical beginning-of-the-season problems.  Although it would be nice to be able to do shake-downs on the launches before our first practice, the reality is that the launches are not available until TBC opens, and even then they did not make all of our launches available immediately.  It helped a lot that Paul arranged for us to borrow a launch from St. John’s.  Today, we got only one of our launches working, and the SJC launch would not start.  Each time we had launch issues, however, we improvised with land training.  I’ll get down to TBC during break and make sure I can get each of our launches started.

I was impressed with how hard the rowers worked and their attitudes.  Very glad we did this, and looking forward to resuming next Monday with the optional practices.
