Al Urquia Regatta, April 26

This week’s event is the Al Urquia Regatta, at Sandy Run Regional Park in Occoquan, Virginia. The team will be racing a women’s varsity 4, a women’s junior 4 and a men’s junior 8.

All athletes, varsity and novice, should be at the high school no later than 5:45 AM Saturday to catch the bus to Occoquan. The coaches and coxswains meeting is very early and we cannot afford to miss it, so please be sure to arrive at the high school on time. The last race starts at 3:56 PM (if we qualify), so the GDS bus will return to Thompson Boat Center no later than 5:15 PM and to the HS no later than 6:15 PM. If you prefer, you may pick up your rower at Thompson once the boats have been unloaded and de-rigged, tentatively around 5:45 PM. Because these times are dependant on performance in heats they are only guesstimates; please be in touch with your rower for more specific information during the course of the afternoon.

Each rower should bring a refillable bottle with him or her for water. Our water supply will be in large jugs rather than individual servings to minimize environmental impact. Please also remember to pack sunscreen.

Race times are listed below. Please note that race times are always subject to change during the course of a regatta.

9:07 AM       Men’s Junior 8 HEAT

11:41 AM      Men’s Junior 8 FINAL (if we qualify)

1:22 PM       Women’s Junior 4

2:11 PM        Women’s Varsity 4 HEAT

3:56 PM       Women’s Varsity 4 FINAL (if we qualify)

Driving directions to the regatta are available on the Directions page of Hoppercrew.com. Please note that parking is approximately 1/2 mile over uneven ground from the viewing area so please wear appropriate footwear. Also please note that dogs are not allowed in the park on regatta days.

If you have a volunteer assignment for this weekend you should already have received an email from Volunteer Spot reminding you of your commitment. Remember that if at any time you wish to review your assignments, you may do so on the Volunteers page of Hoppercrew.com.

If any parents or rowers have photos from last week’s Smokey Jacobs Regatta they would like to see posted on the pictures page of Hoppercrew.com, please put them on a memory stick and have your rower give them to Matthew. Thank you, and Go Hoppers!
